The themes of this project were birth and genetic modification. For the Arts & Nature minor we had to think of a nature paradox. My paradox was ‘’An intervention to reality.’’ So I asked myself: What do these feelings of authenticity and inauthenticity even mean? Birth is something authentic to me, while genetic modification alienates a part of our reality as we know it. So, I wanted to combine these two aspects and create a vision in which a genetically modified birth is possible. You could see it as a baby factory, where a baby is produced and not created from impregnation. The creation of life, which is usually pure from the start, would now be intervened with from the beginning. This somehow symbolizes the change of a mother’s body. When a woman becomes pregnant and eventually gives birth, she is alienated from her previous reality.
The photography and paintings are a selection of pre-research.
